Everything you might want to ask
If you're researching your first carport build, these are the answers you'd usually have to dig for.
- Cost varies with size, roof type, wall material being attached to (if attached), site conditions and finish spec. We don't quote off the page because every block is different. Free site measure, written quote in your inbox within 48 hours.
- Total time from contract signing to handover depends on council processing for your specific build and material lead times. The on-site build itself is typically 2 to 4 days. We give you a realistic end-to-end timeline at quote stage based on the actual specifics of your project.
- Yes, end-to-end. Carports in WA need a Building Permit lodged with your local council under the Building Act 2011. We prepare the structural drawings, engineer sign-off, site plan and full application. You sign one form and we handle the rest. Every Perth metro council and the major regional shires are covered.
- Australian BlueScope structural steel for posts and beams. Genuine Colorbond cladding for the roof, available in the current range of standard colours. Galintel connection brackets, AS-compliant fasteners. Australian-made. No imported steel, ever.
- Lifetime workmanship warranty in writing on every build. The BlueScope and Colorbond materials carry their own manufacturer warranties on top - refer to BlueScope and Colorbond documentation for the current terms.
- In most cases yes. The decision depends on driveway position, the wall we'd be attaching to, and your council's setback rules. We confirm at the site visit which approach makes sense for your block.
- Carports are open structures with a roof and posts. Garages are enclosed structures with walls and doors. Carports are generally significantly cheaper for the same footprint, build faster, and have a simpler permit application. Garages give you security and enclosed storage. Both can add property value when done by a registered builder with full certification.
- Yes. Carports in WA need a Building Permit lodged with your local council under the Building Act 2011. The application can be lodged as Certified (BA1, with a private certifier sign-off) or Uncertified (BA2). We handle the full submission either way and confirm the pathway that suits your build at quote stage.
- Generally match the carport roof to your home's existing roof line. Skillion (single pitch) works well with modern and standard suburban builds. Gable (pitched ridge) pairs naturally with Federation, brick-veneer and weatherboard homes. Flat suits rendered minimalist builds. Hip and Dutch gable suit established character suburbs. We recommend based on your home, your block and your council's requirements at site visit.
- Yes, but the carport needs to be engineered for the additional point load and wind uplift from the start. We can spec the structure for future solar at quote stage, or run a solar-ready conduit through the structure during build so a future canopy install is straightforward.
- All of Perth metro plus most of greater WA. Mandurah, Bunbury, Geraldton, Albany and the suburbs in between. Travel is built into every quote, no hidden surcharge.
- Build crew is Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm. Site visits and consultations available Saturday by appointment. Closed Sundays.
- Standard staged payment: deposit at contract signing, progress payment(s) tied to build milestones, final on handover. We don't ask for 100% upfront. We don't offer in-house finance.
- Yes, on request. We can share photos of carports built across the suburb you're in. Reference visits to completed builds can be arranged with the previous customer's permission.
- Changes during the design phase are easy and usually no charge. Once drawings are lodged with council, changes get more involved. Once construction starts, changes typically involve revised council submissions. We try to lock the design before lodgement to avoid this.
